Collaborations between watchmakers and celebrity ambassadors can often feel superficial, resulting in little more than a signature on a caseback. However, some partnerships are born from a genuine meeting of minds, where shared values of precision, performance, and aesthetics lead to something truly collaborative. The new creation from H. Moser & Cie. and Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly firmly belongs in this latter category. This is not a simple endorsement; it is the physical manifestation of a dialogue between a high-horology manufacture and a world-class athlete, resulting in the Streamliner Tourbillon Pierre Gasly, a watch presented in two distinct and personal variations.
The project was an exercise in authenticity, a core tenet of the H. Moser & Cie. brand. The relationship began with a natural encounter, evolving into a detailed creative process. From the initial conversations, it was clear that Pierre Gasly had a specific vision for a watch that would bear his name. He was not a passive participant but the driving force behind the design, working hand-in-hand with the watchmakers in Neuhausen am Rheinfall to craft a timepiece that is an extension of his own personality and taste. As CEO Edouard Meylan noted, Gasly's conviction was unshakeable; despite being presented with numerous alternatives, he consistently returned to his original concept, proving his deep personal investment in the project.

H. Moser & Cie. was founded by Heinrich Moser in 1828 and has since cultivated a reputation for producing exceptional timepieces with a distinct, often minimalist, aesthetic. The manufacture, which currently employs around 120 people, is fiercely independent and prides itself on its in-house capabilities. To date, it has developed 20 of its own calibres and produces approximately 4,000 watches per year, a number that underscores its focus on quality over quantity. Through its sister company, Precision Engineering AG, Moser even produces its own regulating organs and balance springs, a feat few watch brands can claim. This vertical integration allows for complete creative and technical control, a philosophy that resonated with a perfectionist like Gasly.
Pierre Gasly is a name synonymous with the high-stakes, high-precision world of Formula 1 racing. As a driver, he operates at the absolute limit, where thousandths of a second separate success from failure. This environment demands an obsessive attention to detail and an intimate understanding of complex machinery. It is this mindset that he brought to the collaboration with H. Moser & Cie. His fascination with mechanical watchmaking, particularly its most intricate complications, mirrors his relationship with the engineering marvels he pilots on the racetrack. The project was an opportunity for him to explore this passion and translate his professional ethos into a tangible object.
From the very beginning, Gasly was involved in every critical decision. He didn't just approve a final design; he helped conceive it. His most significant insistence was the inclusion of a tourbillon. For him, this complex mechanism was not just a technical feature but a source of fascination. He described the constant, hypnotic motion of the tourbillon as a "balletic motion," drawing a direct parallel between its technical excellence and the precision required in Formula 1. This choice set the foundation for the entire watch, dictating its character as a piece of sophisticated mechanical art.

The watch is housed in the brand's signature Streamliner case, known for its fluid, cushion-shaped silhouette that lacks traditional lugs. For this special edition, the case is crafted from 5N red gold, a warm and substantial material that immediately signals luxury. The surfaces are expertly finished with a dynamic interplay of brushed and polished facets, particularly visible in the horizontal brushing that flows across the case and integrated bracelet. This texture gives the watch a sporty feel that balances the preciousness of the gold, creating a versatile piece that feels both robust and refined.
Measuring 40.0 mm in diameter, the case is proportioned for modern tastes while remaining comfortable on the wrist. The total height, including the slightly domed sapphire crystal, is 12.1 mm, giving it a solid but not overwhelming presence. Functionality is ensured with a screw-in crown, engraved with the Moser "M," which helps secure a water resistance rating of 12 ATM (120 meters). This level of water resistance is substantial for a tourbillon watch made of precious metal, reinforcing the Streamliner's identity as a true luxury sports watch. A see-through sapphire crystal on the case-back offers an unobstructed view of the intricate movement within.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the watch is its dial, which Pierre Gasly personally named "Chocolate fumé." The color is a deep, rich brown with a sunburst pattern that radiates from the center. True to Moser's fumé style, the color gracefully transitions from a lighter, milk-chocolate hue at its core to a dark, almost black shade at its periphery. This gradient effect creates a sense of profound depth and mystery, capturing the understated and powerful character Gasly envisioned. The warmth of the brown dial perfectly complements the reddish tones of the 5N red gold case.
Furthering the dial's clean aesthetic, the H. Moser & Cie. logo is applied in a transparent lacquer, making it subtly visible only when the light catches it just right. This signature Moser touch keeps the focus on the beautiful fumé finish and the mechanics of the watch. The hands and applied hour indices are crafted from matching 5N red gold. For low-light visibility, the hour and minute hands feature inserts made of Globolight®, a ceramic-based material containing Super-LumiNova® that provides bright and lasting luminescence without the traditional metal borders, contributing to the clean and modern look.

At the heart of the timepiece, displayed prominently through an aperture at 6 o’clock, is the one-minute flying tourbillon. This captivating complication is the centerpiece of the watch, performing a full rotation every 60 seconds. The tourbillon mechanism houses the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage, designed to average out and compensate for the negative effects of gravity on the movement's accuracy when the watch is in different positions. The "flying" design means the tourbillon is supported only from below, offering a clearer, unobstructed view of its intricate dance, enhanced here by a skeletonised bridge.
Powering this spectacle is the HMC 805 automatic calibre. This movement is a testament to Moser’s in-house engineering prowess. It operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides a substantial power reserve of at least three days, or 72 hours. The movement is wound automatically by a bi-directional pawl winding system, ensuring it remains powered with the natural motion of the wearer's wrist. The HMC 805 is a modern evolution, replacing the brand's previous HMC 804 calibre with updated finishes and architecture.
One of the most technically significant components of the HMC 805 is the original double hairspring, designed and produced by Moser's sister company, Precision Engineering AG. A hairspring is the heart of a mechanical movement, and here, two identical springs are paired together. As one spring expands, the other contracts, which allows the mechanism to compensate for the shifts in the center of gravity that each spring experiences. This system drastically improves the movement's precision and isochronism, reflecting a relentless pursuit of horological perfection that aligns perfectly with the ethos of both Moser and an F1 driver.

Flipping the watch over reveals the beauty of the HMC 805 through the sapphire case-back. The movement features a contemporary anthracite finish, with the bridges decorated with the distinctive Moser double stripes. The bridges have also been partially skeletonised, providing a glimpse into the gear train and winding mechanism. The oscillating weight, responsible for automatic winding, is crafted from 18-carat red gold to match the case. It too is skeletonized to provide a less obstructed view of the calibre, and is engraved with the H. Moser & Cie. logo, completing the technically sophisticated aesthetic.
The Streamliner Tourbillon Pierre Gasly is available in two distinct configurations. The first, reference 6805-0410, is a limited edition of 100 pieces. This version emphasizes the watch's sport-chic character by pairing the red gold case with an integrated strap made of chocolate-colored rubber. The strap's color is a perfect match for the dial, creating a cohesive and contemporary look. Its textured surface adds another tactile dimension to the watch, and it is secured with a folding clasp with three blades, crafted from 5N red gold and engraved with the Moser logo.
The second version, reference 6805-0411, is far more exclusive, produced in a micro-edition of only ten pieces. This model is the ultimate expression of the collaboration, featuring a fully integrated bracelet also crafted from 5N red gold. The bracelet's fluid, wave-like links are a hallmark of the Streamliner design, flowing seamlessly from the case to create a single, organic form. The horizontal brushing on the links creates a beautiful play of light that is both understated and complex, making the entire watch feel like a piece of wearable sculpture.
What truly sets the 10-piece edition apart is a small, deeply personal detail. Set discreetly at the 10 o’clock position is a single baguette-cut red ruby, replacing the standard gold index. This is not a random flourish of jewelry but a direct tribute to Pierre Gasly's racing number: 10. It is a number he has carried throughout his career and to which he is very attached. The inclusion of the ruby is an intimate nod, a secret shared between the brand, the driver, and the ten fortunate owners of this piece. It exemplifies the thoughtful and personal nature of the entire collaboration.
