Hublot has introduced a significant expansion to its tonneau-shaped Spirit of Big Bang collection, bringing its renowned expertise in colored ceramics to the forefront of the Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve model. The release marks a pivotal moment for the collection, which previously featured this complication only in more subdued materials like white ceramic or carbon. Now, a vibrant quartet of new ceramic editions in yellow, sky blue, red, and black joins the lineup, accompanied by a fifth, distinct version cased in polished black sapphire. This move signals a deliberate effort by the brand to infuse one of its more complex offerings with the same material innovation and bold aesthetic that has defined its broader catalog. Each colorway is not merely a new coat of paint but a technical achievement, representing Hublot's mastery over a notoriously difficult material to color and machine.

The story of Hublot is fundamentally one of calculated disruption. Founded in 1980, the brand immediately challenged the conventions of luxury watchmaking by pairing a precious gold case with a casual rubber strap—an unheard-of combination at the time. This act laid the foundation for its "Art of Fusion" philosophy, a guiding principle that prioritizes the combination of disparate and often unexpected materials. This ethos reached its modern Zenith in 2005 with the launch of the Big Bang. The Big Bang's layered case construction, bold size, and fusion of materials like ceramic, carbon fiber, titanium, and gold revolutionized contemporary watch design and established a new icon for the 21st century. The Spirit of Big Bang, introduced in 2014, serves as a direct descendant of this legacy, translating the Big Bang's core design language into a different geometry—the ergonomic and historically significant tonneau case.

The Spirit of Big Bang collection successfully adapts the key visual identifiers of its round predecessor into its curved form. The signature bezel with its six H-shaped screws, the protective lugs flanking the case, the multi-layer sandwich construction, and the use of skeletonized movements are all present, yet reinterpreted for the new shape. It provides a structured, architectural alternative for those who appreciate the brand's design but seek a different wrist presence. These new tourbillon models, measuring 42mm, are a testament to this successful adaptation, now further energized by the introduction of color. The result is a series of timepieces that feel both intrinsically Hublot and refreshingly new, pushing the expressive potential of the tonneau form.

Central to this new release is Hublot's command over high-tech ceramic. The "Yellow Magic" version features a case made from a polished yellow ceramic that is intensely vibrant and saturated. The bright, almost electric yellow of the case and matching bezel creates a powerful visual statement. This is contrasted sharply by the black elements, including the bezel screws, the rubber grip on the large fluted crown, and the strap integration points. This interplay of yellow and black continues onto the open-worked dial, where the hands and minute track are accented in the same vivid yellow, ensuring legibility against the complex mechanical backdrop. The entire presentation is one of high energy and deliberate contrast.

Similarly striking is the "Sky Blue Ceramic" model, which offers a completely different personality. The case is crafted from a polished, soft-hued light blue ceramic. The color is less aggressive than the yellow, evoking a sense of cool composure. The pale blue provides a softer frame for the intricate, metallic gray and silver tones of the HUB6020 movement visible through the sapphire dial. Blue accents are subtly applied to the hands and dial markers, creating a cohesive design. The black fabric and rubber straps serve to anchor the light case color, preventing it from feeling anything less than substantial and technical on the wrist.

The "Red Magic" edition leverages one of Hublot's most celebrated ceramic achievements. The polished red ceramic is deep, rich, and possesses a luster that is difficult to achieve in this material. Red has become a signature color for the brand, and its application to the Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon creates an immediate and powerful visual impact. The watch has an assertive and confident presence, with the red of the case and bezel complemented by red accents on the skeletonized dial's hands and power reserve indicator. The combination of the aggressive red hue with the technical, open-worked movement is a prime example of the Art of Fusion.

For a more understated but equally compelling option, the "Black Magic" model utilizes a microblasted and polished black ceramic. This dual-finishing technique adds textural depth to the watch, with matte surfaces absorbing light next to polished facets that reflect it. The result is a monochromatic piece that plays with light and shadow. The dark case creates a dramatic frame for the skeletonized movement, causing the metallic gears, bridges, and the whirling tourbillon cage to stand out with exceptional clarity. It is the most versatile of the ceramic quartet, offering a stealthy aesthetic that still showcases the watch's mechanical complexity.

Standing apart from the ceramic models is the fifth release, the "Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon Black Sapphire." This version takes transparency to a new level with a case machined from a solid block of polished black sapphire crystal. Instead of being opaque, the case has a smoky, translucent quality that allows light to pass through it, revealing the movement from the sides as well as the front and back. This provides a unique, ghost-like perspective of the caliber's three-dimensional architecture. The bezel on this model is made of polished black-plated titanium, adding a metallic contrast to the crystalline case. At a significantly higher price point, this piece represents the pinnacle of material engineering within the new collection.

Powering all five watches is the HUB6020 manufacture movement, a caliber developed specifically for the tonneau case shape of the Spirit of Big Bang. It is a manual-winding movement that showcases a high level of technical artistry. The layout is unconventional and visually balanced, with an off-center dial for the hours and minutes positioned at 3 o'clock. This placement allows for an unobstructed view of the intricate gear train and the other key features of the movement, creating a dynamic and asymmetrical display that draws the eye across the dial.

The focal point for many will be the tourbillon, located prominently at the 6 o'clock position. The tourbillon features a mobile cage that completes one full rotation every sixty seconds. This constant motion is not just for visual spectacle; its primary function in classical watchmaking is to counteract the effects of gravity on the escapement's accuracy when the watch is in various vertical positions. In a modern wristwatch, it stands as a clear demonstration of a brand's horological prowess and a hallmark of high watchmaking, and its execution here is both technically sound and aesthetically captivating.

A key characteristic of the HUB6020 is its extreme skeletonization. Hublot has meticulously hollowed out the bridges and base plate of the movement, removing as much material as possible without compromising structural integrity. This creates a light, airy, and almost floating appearance, allowing the wearer to see deep into the mechanical heart of the watch. Every gear, lever, and spring is put on display, turning the simple act of time-telling into an interactive experience with the mechanics. This technical feat transforms the caliber into a piece of kinetic sculpture.

Beyond the complexity of the tourbillon, the movement is also practical, boasting an impressive power reserve of approximately 115 hours, or nearly five days. A dedicated indicator at the 8 o'clock position allows the wearer to track the remaining energy, ensuring they know when it's time to wind the watch via the large, easy-to-grip fluted crown. This extended autonomy is a significant convenience for a manual-winding timepiece, especially one with a power-hungry complication like a tourbillon.

The 42mm case of each watch is protected by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment, ensuring a clear view of the complex dial under various lighting conditions. While these are highly technical timepieces, they are rated for a water resistance of 30 meters. This is sufficient to protect against splashes and daily wear but confirms that these are not sports watches intended for aquatic activities, which is appropriate for a grand complication of this nature.

Hublot enhances the wearing experience with a versatile strap system. Each watch comes with two straps: a primary black fabric strap with a Velcro closure for a modern, sporty feel, and a secondary rubber strap lined with a color that corresponds to the case. The brand's patented "One Click" system allows the owner to swap between these straps easily and without tools, dramatically changing the look of the watch in seconds. The clasp is a deployant buckle made from a combination of ceramic and titanium, ensuring security and comfort on the wrist.

In an unprecedented move for the brand, Hublot is introducing a new customization program for the owners of these timepieces. During exclusive in-store events, buyers of the four ceramic models will have the opportunity to personalize their watch further. Each owner will receive their chosen watch with its two standard straps, but will also be able to select a third strap and an additional bezel from a curated collection of around twenty variants. These options include different colors and materials like carbon fiber or ceramic, with some even offering stone-setting, providing a nearly endless array of potential combinations.

The exclusivity of these timepieces is guaranteed by their strict limitation. Each of the five versions—Yellow Magic, Sky Blue Ceramic, Red Magic, Black Magic, and Black Sapphire—is being produced in a limited edition of only 20 pieces worldwide. This rarity ensures that each watch will remain an exceptional and sought-after object among collectors.

The pricing reflects the materials and mechanical complexity involved. The four ceramic models—Yellow Magic, Sky Blue Ceramic, Red Magic, and Black Magic—are each priced at $104,000. The Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon Black Sapphire, with its intricately machined crystal case, is priced at $161,000. These watches are being launched through a series of private events for select collectors, underscoring their status as premier offerings in the Hublot collection.
