The Hourstriker Verdict
YEMA has just released their newest member of the historic Superman dive watch in the Titanium MoonTide CMM.11. This compact dive watch features a 38.5mm case crafted completely out of grade 2 pure titanium. The watch is accompanied with an integrated rubber strap and amazing titanium Scales Slim bracelet. The star of the show is the stunning oil-pressed titanium dial that represents the texture of the moon. This is all powered by the manufacture CMM.11 automatic movement. Whenever a manufacture uses titanium in a watch I'm a fan, even better when the final result is so well done.

The French watchmaker YEMA has released a new iteration of its flagship dive watch, the Superman Titanium MoonTide CMM.11 Limited Edition, designated by reference number 12.26.11.66.TNL.MT. This release represents the first instance of the Superman platform being manufactured entirely from titanium, departing from the traditional stainless steel or bronze configurations previously utilized across their catalog. Production is strictly capped at 400 sequentially numbered units worldwide, positioning this model within a specific allocation tier rather than standard continuous production. The overarching design language retains the core architecture of the original 1963 Superman, specifically incorporating the trademark bezel-locking mechanism that has defined the model family for six decades. This physical locking clamp acts as a fail-safe against bezel rotation, a mechanical solution developed long before the standardization of unidirectional clicking bezels. By transitioning to a Grade 2 titanium construction, YEMA shifts the operational focus of the watch toward significant mass reduction and high corrosion resistance. This approach directly targets an enthusiast demographic that prioritizes utility, material performance, and wearing comfort in mechanical dive watches without sacrificing the established visual identity of a heritage reference.
The decision to utilize a 38.5mm case diameter rather than the larger 41mm format found in other Superman references aligns with current market preferences for mid-century proportional accuracy. The 47mm lug-to-lug distance provides a stabilized footprint on the wrist, mitigating the overhang often associated with modern dive watches that feature extended lug profiles. A total case thickness of 11.30mm, inclusive of the 2.20mm double-domed sapphire crystal, keeps the center of gravity low against the wrist. This low profile is further aided by the inherent lightweight properties of the titanium alloy, which significantly reduces the total mass relative to a steel equivalent. This specific dimensional matrix ensures that the watch occupies a compact physical space while maintaining the structural integrity required to achieve its 30 BAR, or 300-meter, depth rating. The combination of these physical parameters indicates a deliberate engineering strategy aimed at producing a highly capable aquatic tool watch that remains unobtrusive during daily wear scenarios.

The Case and Dial
The case architecture relies entirely on Grade 2 titanium, a commercially pure alpha alloy known for its exceptional corrosion resistance in saltwater environments and a high strength-to-weight ratio. Unlike Grade 5 titanium, which is alloyed with aluminum and vanadium to allow for a high polish, Grade 2 typically yields a darker, more utilitarian grey tone. YEMA manipulates this material by applying a uniform vertical brushed finish across the primary surfaces, which is directly contrasted by mirror-polished chamfers running along the lug edges. This alternating finish technique creates visual separation between the case components and highlights the curvature of the 19mm lugs. The implementation of a polished ceramic insert in the unidirectional diving bezel replaces the standard aluminum inserts of vintage models, providing superior scratch resistance against abrasive materials encountered in marine environments or daily use. The bezel operates on a 0 to 60-minute graduation scale, secured by the proprietary Superman locking clamp located at the 3 o'clock position. This locking clamp physically immobilizes the bezel when the crown is screwed down to prevent accidental timing alterations during an active dive.
Beneath the 2.20mm double-domed sapphire crystal, the dial presents a highly textured surface modeled after lunar topography, achieved through an industrial oil-press technique applied over a sandblasted titanium base. This production method stamps a randomized, cratered relief into the metal, creating a heavily grained, matte grey foundation that diffuses ambient light rather than reflecting it. To ensure legibility against this complex background, YEMA utilizes large, applied hour markers featuring highly polished metallic surrounds that stand out from the dial base. The handset incorporates a brushed IP black plating, offering a severe visual contrast against the pale grey dial, which allows the wearer to acquire the time instantly at a glance. Both the hands and the applied indices, as well as the bezel's zero-marker pip, are generously filled with Super-LumiNova BGW9 Grade A. This specific photoluminescent compound appears stark white during daylight hours and emits an intense blue glow in low-light conditions, providing the high-contrast visibility mandatory for a watch adhering to professional diving specifications. A framed date aperture is positioned at 6 o'clock, maintaining the bilateral symmetry of the dial layout without truncating the surrounding hour markers.

The Movement
Powering the MoonTide edition is the Caliber CMM.11, an automatic movement developed and assembled entirely within YEMA's Morteau workshops situated in the French Jura mountains. This caliber represents a significant operational upgrade over off-the-shelf outsourced movements, specifically regarding its energy storage capabilities. The CMM.11 utilizes an enlarged mainspring barrel architecture that delivers a 70-hour power reserve. This capacity allows the watch to be removed on a Friday evening and put back on Monday morning without requiring manual winding or time resetting. It achieves this extended power reserve while maintaining a standard high-beat frequency of 4Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, which ensures the seconds hand sweeps smoothly and the balance wheel recovers quickly from physical shocks. The movement is regulated to operate within a chronometric precision tolerance of -3 to +5 seconds per day, positioning its timekeeping accuracy competitively against established Swiss chronometer standards.
The physical construction of the CMM.11 focuses on a symmetrical mainplate architecture designed to optimize the placement and stability of the regulating organs, shock absorbers, and the escapement assembly. YEMA employs a localized supply chain for the production of these components, sourcing parts from specialized manufacturers within a 72-kilometer radius encompassing both the French and Swiss sides of the Jura mountain watchmaking region. The final assembly, calibration, and testing of the movement are executed entirely in Morteau, reinforcing the brand's commitment to vertical integration and domestic manufacturing. The movement is visible through a sapphire exhibition case back, a feature that typically compromises the thickness or depth rating of a serious dive watch. However, YEMA engineers managed to integrate this transparent case back while preserving the 11.30mm overall case thickness and the 30 BAR water resistance. The display back provides a clear view of the dark-treated oscillating weight and the brushed movement bridges beneath it. The steel perimeter of the case back is engraved with the individual serial number out of the 400-piece production run, establishing clear provenance for each unit.

The Strap Options
The watch is delivered with two distinct mounting options, beginning with the Grade 2 titanium "Scales Slim" bracelet that draws its aesthetic directly from YEMA designs of the 1960s. For this specific iteration, the bracelet links have been re-engineered to achieve a 0.40mm reduction in overall thickness. This profile reduction significantly decreases the total mass of the bracelet and improves articulation around the wrist. The structure features a continuous taper from the solid end links down to the clasp, a geometry that prevents the watch from feeling top-heavy and balances the 38.5mm case head. The fully brushed finish of the titanium links matches the brushing on the case, creating a cohesive visual extension of the watch body. The assembly is secured by a double-security folding clasp equipped with an integrated diver's extension, allowing the wearer to rapidly expand the bracelet circumference to accommodate the thickness of a neoprene exposure suit.
In addition to the titanium bracelet, the package includes an integrated rubber strap manufactured from FKM VITON, a high-density fluoropolymer elastomer utilized in aerospace and industrial applications. This specific formulation of rubber is chosen for its extreme resistance to thermal degradation, ultraviolet light exposure, and corrosive chemical environments. Unlike standard silicone or natural vulcanized rubber, FKM VITON completely repels dust and lint, maintaining a clean aesthetic even after prolonged wear. The exterior surface of the strap features a textured, weave-like pattern that visually complements the dial's topography. The secondary strap option is fastened using a custom sandblasted titanium pin buckle. This provides a lightweight and highly secure alternative for aggressive aquatic activities where a metal bracelet might prove cumbersome.
