The Hourstriker Verdict
The newest Weekend model from Perrelet sees the brand add a stunning natural green malachite dial to the watch. The Weekend boasts a compact 39 mm stainless steel case with 50 meters of water resistance. It is powered by a manufacture automatic movement developed by SOPROD with 42 hours of power reserve. In all, the addition of malachite to the Weekend is applauded by us, especially since we've started to collect watches with Malachite dials recently.

Perrelet has officially expanded its traditional Weekend collection with the introduction of the Weekend Malachite Reference A1300/K, marking a deliberate production shift toward the integration of hard stone materials. Originally launched in 2017, the Weekend line represents the brand’s conventional time-and-date architecture, serving as a structural and commercial counterpoint to the kinetic Turbine and Double Rotor models that typically define the manufacturer’s primary modern catalog. While Perrelet’s historical foundation is tied to Abraham-Louis Perrelet’s early development of self-winding mechanisms in the late eighteenth century, the modern entity operates under the Festina Group, utilizing this historical brand equity to market contemporary mechanical pieces. This specific release follows the recent introduction of the Weekend Aventurine, indicating a broader manufacturing strategy to elevate the entry-level dress watch segment by replacing standard stamped brass dials with exotic mineral substrates. The integration of malachite fundamentally alters the visual weight and production complexity of the standard 39mm Weekend platform, positioning it against higher-tier dress watches utilizing similar organic materials.
Hard stone dials represent a distinct manufacturing challenge within horology, requiring highly specialized cutting and polishing techniques to avoid fracturing the brittle mineral compounds during the production process. Malachite, a basic copper carbonate mineral recognized for its distinct green banding, possesses a relatively low rating on the Mohs hardness scale, making the machining of the center pinion hole and date aperture particularly difficult. By maintaining the established case dimensions of the Weekend line while introducing a material with high variance in its natural grain structure, Perrelet transitions this specific reference from a high-volume standard production piece into a series of visually distinct units. Because the alignment, density, and saturation of the green striations vary strictly by the specific slice of stone utilized, no two dial blanks display identical topography. This material variance ensures that while the technical specifications remain uniform across the production run, the visual presentation of each watch is dictated entirely by the geological composition of the sourced malachite.

The Case and Dial
The Weekend Malachite is built around a 39mm stainless steel case that measures 9.56mm in thickness, maintaining a strictly traditional profile for an automatic dress watch housing a hard stone dial. Accommodating a mineral dial typically requires increasing the internal clearance between the dial surface and the handset, as the stone must be cut to a specific minimum thickness to prevent structural failure when the hands are applied. The case architecture features a smooth, flat polished bezel that maximizes the dial aperture, flanked by short lugs that curve sharply downward to mitigate the lug-to-lug distance and conform strictly to the wrist. Finishing on the stainless steel case consists of high-polish upper surfaces on the bezel and lug hoods, contrasting with linear satin brushing applied heavily to the vertical mid-case flanks. A grooved push-pull crown, signed with the Perrelet logo in relief, sits securely at the three o'clock position and directly controls the time setting, date advancement, and manual winding functions. The caseback utilizes a specialized six-screw closure system to secure the exhibition window, contributing to the baseline 5 ATM water resistance rating, which provides protection against ambient moisture but precludes the watch from submersion.
The dial is cut from natural malachite, exhibiting the mineral's characteristic concentric banding through alternating striations of dark forest green and lighter, highly saturated emerald tones across a flat plane. To construct the dial, the fragile malachite slice is adhered to a brass baseplate for necessary structural rigidity before the internal apertures for the central hand stack and the date window are milled. The dial hardware consists of rhodium-plated applied baton indices, which are deliberately doubled at the twelve and six o'clock positions to provide a clear vertical orientation axis against the chaotic natural pattern of the stone. Applying metal indices to a stone dial requires drilling precision micro-holes directly through the malachite, after which the dial feet of the indices are inserted, secured, and sealed from the underside of the brass baseplate. A stepped, polished silver-tone frame surrounds the date window at three o'clock, which displays high-contrast black Arabic numerals printed on a standard white date disc. Time is indicated by rhodium-plated, dauphine-style hour and minute hands featuring a sharp central crease that catches light from dual angles, paired with a slender central sweeping seconds hand that reaches the outer perimeter of the dial indices.

The Movement
Powering the Weekend Malachite is the Caliber P-321, an automatic movement manufactured by SOPROD, a recognized movement specialist that operates alongside Perrelet strictly under the Festina Group corporate umbrella. This shared ownership structure allows Perrelet to utilize group-level manufacturing resources, securing a consistent internal supply chain for specialized calibers without relying entirely on external third-party suppliers. The P-321 operates at an oscillating frequency of 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, a modern standard that provides a highly precise sweep of the central seconds hand over the malachite surface, breaking each chronological second into eight distinct mechanical increments. The movement is regulated by a traditional Swiss lever escapement and utilizes 25 synthetic ruby jewels to aggressively reduce mechanical friction at the primary pivot points within the gear train. The mainspring barrel stores a maximum power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound, a capacity that dictates the watch must be worn daily or placed on an automatic winder to prevent the mainspring from fully depleting over a standard two-day weekend.
Visible through the rear exhibition caseback, the P-321 exhibits standard industrial finishing techniques appropriate for its specific market segment and price point. The mainplate and the visible upper bridges are decorated with extensive circular graining, often referred to within the industry as perlage, applied via a spinning abrasive peg that overlaps tight concentric circles across the rhodium-plated surfaces. The automatic winding system is driven by a custom, openworked oscillating weight mounted on a central ball-bearing mechanism, which efficiently facilitates the bidirectional winding of the mainspring barrel. This customized rotor is heavily skeletonized to maximize the physical visibility of the escapement and gear train operating beneath it, and is finished with a deep sunray brushing pattern radiating outward from the central pivot point. The outer track of the rotor is deeply engraved with the Perrelet logo, ensuring strict brand integration on the supplied movement, while the balance wheel relies on standard shock absorption hardware to protect the regulating organ from daily impact forces.

The Strap and Bracelet
The Weekend Malachite is delivered from the factory with two distinct attachment options, utilizing a standard 20mm lug width and integrating a quick-release spring bar system to facilitate rapid changes without utilizing specialized horological tools. The primary option is a seven-link stainless steel bracelet, featuring a complex structure of narrow, tightly articulated links designed to drape fluidly and conform closely to the shape of the wearer's wrist. This bracelet employs an alternating finish protocol, where the broader outer and central links are vertically brushed, while the intermediate connector links are highly polished to visually match the case bezel.
The secondary option included in the standard presentation box is a green calf leather strap, surface-embossed with a deep alligator scale pattern to mimic exotic hides. This leather variant is specifically dyed to complement the saturated green tones of the natural malachite dial, featuring color-matched perimeter stitching along the edges. The strap is secured to the wrist by a standard stainless steel pin buckle, which is fully polished and deeply signed with the Perrelet brand logo.
