DescriptionThe Grand Seiko SBGW262, part of the Elegance Collection, presents a case constructed from 18k yellow gold. The case dimensions are meticulously crafted, exhibiting a diameter of 39.0mm, a lug-to-lug measurement of 44.0mm, and an overall thickness of 11.6mm. Protecting the dial is a dual-curved sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating applied to its inner surface. This feature minimizes glare, ensuring improved visibility of the meticulously detailed dial. The watch's case back is of a see-through screw-down variety, allowing visual access to the movement within. A crocodile leather strap, 19mm in width, provides an elegant method of securing this piece. The total design adds to its presence as a statement of intent.

The SBGW262 is powered by the Caliber 9S64, a manually wound mechanical movement. It possesses a power reserve of approximately 72 hours (3 days) when fully wound. The movement's accuracy is denoted by its mean daily rate, rated between +5 to -3 seconds per day. This mean daily rate is derived from measurements taken over 12 days, with the uncased movement tested in six different positions under controlled conditions. The "Normal usage accuracy", provides an accuracy that is specified as +10 to -1 seconds per day. The movement features 24 jewels, which serve to reduce friction and wear among the movement's moving parts. The dial, a prominent feature of the SBGW262, is crafted using Urushi lacquer sourced from trees near Joboji, beneath Mt. Iwate. A very small percentage of lacquer used in Japan is from domestic sources such as this and although it is very difficult to handle compared to its foreign counterparts it produces very deep black coloring. The black color is achieved by blending the lacquer with iron. Raised maki-e techniques are applied to the hour markers. These details are meticulously applied by Isshu Tamura, a Kaga Maki-e Urushi master. The case and dial design creates a very smooth and powerful feeling. The watch possesses a magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m and is rated as splash resistant.
