H. Moser & Cie. has introduced a vibrant and mechanically sophisticated duo to its Streamliner collection: the Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Rainbow watches. These timepieces, offered in either 5N red gold or stainless steel, represent a striking fusion of high-end watchmaking and the meticulous art of gemsetting. The launch, announced in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, underscores the brand's capacity for innovation while adhering to its core tenets of minimalism and refined mechanics.

The Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Rainbow watches are a testament to the brand's philosophy of employing precious stones not merely for adornment, but to accentuate the mechanical beauty and minimalist design of their timepieces. Gem-setting is a relatively rare practice for H. Moser & Cie., undertaken with the specific intention of enhancing the inherent qualities of the watch. In these new models, the brilliance of the sapphires is used to highlight the intricate workings of the movement and the balanced, uncluttered aesthetic for which Moser is known.

At the heart of these new creations is the intricate setting of sixty baguette-cut sapphires. These stones are meticulously selected for their individual shape and color, forming a seamless rainbow gradation around the cushion-shaped case that has become a hallmark of the Streamliner collection. The gemsetting technique employed is an invisible setting, a complex process requiring extreme precision from expert gemsetters. This method ensures that no metal is visible between the stones, allowing them to present an uninterrupted flow of color and light. The sapphires are arranged in a double gradation: one for the spectrum of rainbow hues and another for size, to perfectly follow the distinct contours of the Streamliner case. This careful arrangement of gemstones illuminates the entirely skeletonized movement, creating a captivating interplay between the vibrant sapphires and the assertive, mechanical nature of the watch.

The design ethos of the Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Rainbow emphasizes lightness and transparency. H. Moser & Cie. has painstakingly removed all non-essential material from the movement, a process that not only reveals its inner workings but also enhances its precious character. This skeletonization creates a remarkable sense of depth, allowing light to permeate the watch and showcase its structural beauty. The symmetry of the movement, a detail considered throughout its conception, further contributes to the visual harmony of the openworked design. The overall effect is one of a mechanism that appears almost to float within its jeweled frame.

The focal point of the dial, positioned at 6 o'clock, is the one-minute flying tourbillon. This complication, a hallmark of haute horlogerie, is designed to counteract the effects of gravity on the watch's timekeeping accuracy by housing the regulating organ and escapement within a rotating cage. The specific calibre powering these watches is the HMC 814, an automatic skeleton movement developed and produced in-house. A significant feature of this calibre is the double hairspring, also manufactured by Precision Engineering AG. This proprietary technology further enhances the precision and stability of the timepiece. The bridges of the HMC 814 calibre are exceptionally open, a deliberate design choice to maximize the passage of light through the watch, thereby highlighting the tourbillon and the intricate architecture of the movement.

The Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Rainbow is available in two distinct versions. The first, reference 6814-0401, features a case and integrated bracelet crafted from 5N red gold. This warm-toned precious metal provides a rich backdrop for the vibrant sapphires, enhancing their chromatic display. The interplay of light on the polished and brushed surfaces of the gold case and bracelet, combined with the sparkle of the gemstones, creates a visually luxurious effect. The inherent richness of the red gold contrasts beautifully with the technical nature of the skeletonized movement visible through the open dial.

The second iteration, reference 6814-1201, presents the watch in a stainless steel case and bracelet. This version offers a more contemporary, cooler aesthetic. The steel provides a sleek frame for the rainbow sapphires, allowing their colors to take center stage. The robust and modern character of steel, paired with the intricate mechanics and gemstone setting, results in a watch that is both sporty and sophisticated. The polished and brushed finishes on the steel case and bracelet articulate the Streamliner's signature fluid lines.

Both models share a diameter of 40.0 mm, a versatile size suitable for a range of wrists. The integrated bracelet design, a key characteristic of the Streamliner collection, ensures a seamless transition from the case to the strap, contributing to the watch's ergonomic feel and distinctive visual identity. The complex construction of the bracelet, with its articulating links, allows it to conform comfortably to the wrist.

The dial, or rather the absence of a traditional one, in these skeletonized timepieces is a crucial element of their design. The openworked architecture allows an unobstructed view of the HMC 814 calibre. The hands sweep over the exposed gears, bridges, and the mesmerizing rotation of the flying tourbillon. The sapphire crystal on the front and the exhibition case back provide clear views of the mechanical artistry from both sides of the watch.

In terms of performance, the HMC 814 automatic calibre offers a substantial power reserve of 72 hours, meaning the watch can run autonomously for three days when fully wound. This is a practical feature, allowing the owner to set the watch aside for a weekend without needing to rewind it. The watches also boast a water resistance of 12 ATM (120 meters), a notable specification for a timepiece of this complexity and preciousness. This level of water resistance makes the Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Rainbow suitable for everyday wear and resilient against accidental exposure to water, adding a degree of practicality to its otherwise luxurious nature.

H. Moser & Cie. describes these creations as "a manifesto for daring dreamers who combine mechanical ingenuity with the delicate art of jewellery." This statement encapsulates the essence of the Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Rainbow – watches that are technically advanced, artistically expressive, and unapologetically bold. They represent a step in the brand's ongoing creative journey to redefine the boundaries of essential watchmaking, piece by piece.

The visual presentation of these watches is striking. The cushion-shaped case, with its softly rounded corners and flowing lines, is instantly recognizable as part of the Streamliner family. The seamless integration of the bracelet, a hallmark of the collection, enhances the organic, almost liquid-like aesthetic. When viewed head-on, the rainbow of sapphires forms a brilliant halo around the exposed mechanics. The light catches the facets of each baguette-cut stone, creating a dynamic play of color that shifts with the wearer's movement. The skeletonized movement itself is a landscape of meticulously finished components, with anglage, brushing, and polishing evident on the bridges and plates. The tourbillon, constantly in motion, adds a kinetic element to the already visually engaging dial. The contrast between the vibrant, colorful gemstones and the intricate, monochromatic (in the case of the steel version) or warm-toned (in the red gold version) mechanics is a key design feature.

The red gold model exudes a sense of opulence and warmth. The rich hue of the 5N red gold harmonizes with the fiery reds, oranges, and yellows of the sapphire spectrum, while also providing a striking contrast to the cooler blues and greens. The overall impression is one of luxuriousness and bold statement.

The stainless steel version, on the other hand, offers a more contemporary and perhaps understated (if a rainbow-set tourbillon can ever be truly understated) appeal. The bright, cool tones of the steel allow the rainbow sapphires to pop, their colors appearing even more vivid against the neutral background. This version might appeal to those who appreciate the technical prowess and artistic gemsetting but prefer a less overtly precious metal.

From the reverse, the exhibition case back reveals the other side of the HMC 814 calibre, including the rotor that winds the mainspring. The finishing on the movement components is expected to be of the highest standard, consistent with H. Moser & Cie.'s reputation for fine watchmaking.

The Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Rainbow watches are positioned at the higher end of the luxury watch market. The 5N red gold model, reference 6814-0401, is priced at CHF 175,000. The stainless steel version, reference 6814-1201, is offered at CHF 125,000. Given the complexity of the movement, the intricate skeletonization, the high-quality gemsetting with sixty baguette-cut sapphires, and the limited production capacity of H. Moser & Cie., these timepieces are expected to be exclusive and sought after by collectors who appreciate both mechanical ingenuity and artistic expression. Availability is through H. Moser & Cie. authorized dealers and boutiques.
