  • MICROMILSPEC, the Norwegian watchmaker established in 2019, is marking its sixth year of operation with a significant new release. The brand is introducing the Dualtimer Look-At-Me Edition, a watch that brings a fresh set of colors to its permanent collection. This launch is not a typical anniversary piece but rather a deliberate expansion of the brand's catalog, rooted in its unique history of custom, professional-grade timepieces. The new series is presented in three distinct colorways: Perfect Blue, Perfect Green, and Perfect Sand, each offering a different personality while being strictly limited to an annual production of 25 pieces per color.

The story behind this release is central to understanding MICROMILSPEC's identity. The brand's foundation is built on five years of creating "made-to-order" watches primarily for military units, first responders, and other special clients. This was followed by one year of producing civilian editions. In that short time, the company has delivered over 40 custom timepieces for specialist units. Of those 40-plus projects, a staggering 38 of them ended up with black dials. This new release is a direct and humorous response to that monochrome history, aiming to "restore visual order" to the collection.

These new Dualtimer models are the colors the team has apparently wanted to use for years but, for reasons they can't quite explain, have avoided until now. Henrik Rye, the Founder and CEO of MICROMILSPEC, notes that the company is skipping the "obligatory five-year anniversary piece" and instead celebrating year six with these new hues. He frames it as a celebration of doing things differently, with a touch of humor. This launch follows a successful year that saw the Pilot Collection become a best-selling line for the brand, and these new colors are meant to add a new dimension to their offerings.

Visually, the Dualtimer makes a strong impression with its signature octagon case. Crafted from surgical-grade 316L stainless steel, the 42mm case is defined by its sharp angles, flat planes, and precise chamfers. The entire finish is a satin-brushed texture, which absorbs light rather than reflecting it, reinforcing the watch's identity as a functional instrument. This is not a polished dress piece; it is a robust, purpose-built tool, an aesthetic derived directly from the brand's work with professional operators.

A key functional and visual element is the 120-click rotating bezel. The edge of the bezel features what the brand calls a "QuadGrip," a highly tactile, aggressive knurling of small pyramid shapes. This texture is clearly designed for easy manipulation, even with gloves on. The bezel insert itself is made of durable ceramic, which is color-matched to the dial. It is marked with a 24-hour scale, featuring large, modern numerals that allow the wearer to track a second time zone in conjunction with the GMT hand.

The dial is a lesson in legibility, built on a pilot-watch theme. It features a matte, radial-brushed finish that provides a subtle texture without creating glare. The hands are large, thick, and blocky, filled with a generous amountof luminous material. The hour markers are applied rectangles, also lume-filled, ensuring the primary time can be read at a glance. A unique, vertical date window is positioned at the 3 o'clock position, displaying the current, previous, and next date. The dial text is minimal, displaying the brand, model, water resistance, and "GMT," alongside a crosshair logo just above the central pinion.

The GMT function is, of course, central to the Dualtimer's design. The watch employs a large, distinct, arrow-tipped hand to indicate the second time zone against the 24-hour bezel. To enhance legibility in all lighting conditions, MICROMILSPEC uses a functional, bi-color Super-LumiNova X1 setup. The primary timekeeping hands and hour markers glow green, while the GMT hand and the 24-hour numerals on the bezel glow blue. This color separation makes it simple to distinguish between local time and home time in complete darkness.

The three color options each give the watch a distinct character. The "Perfect Blue" is a deep, saturated navy, a classic choice for a tool watch that offers versatility. The "Perfect Green" is a muted, olive shade, leaning heavily into the brand's military DNA. The "Perfect Sand" is a beige or taupe color, reminiscent of desert camouflage and equipment, which stands out as a less common and compelling option in the tool-watch space.

Inside the robust steel case beats a Swiss-made, self-winding mechanical movement: the Sellita SW330-2. This is a reliable and well-regarded "caller" GMT caliber, known for its durability. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), which provides a smooth sweep of the seconds hand and contributes to its accuracy. The movement also boasts a healthy 56-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to be set down for a weekend without needing to be rewound.

MICROMILSPEC does not simply use the stock movement. The SW330-2 is adjusted by the brand and fitted with a custom rotor, which is visible through the watch's open, screw-in caseback. This exhibition window allows a view of the 26-jewel movement at work. The caseback also features a designated flat surface for personal engravings, offering customization of up to 20 characters—a feature that harks back to the brand's heritage of creating personalized unit watches.

The watch's dimensions are modern and purposeful. The 42mm diameter is complemented by a relatively slim 12mm case height and a 50.3mm lug-to-lug measurement. These proportions, combined with the angular case, suggest a watch with significant wrist presence that should still wear comfortably. The case is water-resistant to 20 ATM, or 200 meters, and features a screw-in crown with a red alert winding stem, confirming its capability as a go-anywhere, do-anything timepiece.

The watch is offered with a choice of a full 316L brushed stainless steel bracelet or an integrated rubber strap. The rubber straps are available in multiple colors, including black, white, blue, beige, and green, allowing for further customization. The straps feature a pyramid texture that directly mirrors the "QuadGrip" pattern on the bezel, creating a very cohesive and integrated design from case to strap.

This timepiece is a product of MICROMILSPEC's unique operational structure. The design and development are handled in Oslo, Norway, while manufacturing and assembly are carried out by a network of trusted partners in Switzerland. This approach allows the independent brand to work closely with leading specialists, executing projects with technology and materials that are often associated with much larger, established watch houses.

The credibility of the Dualtimer is built on the brand's past work. MICROMILSPEC's client list is a roster of elite professional units. They have produced custom projects for Canadian, Norwegian, and French Special Forces, the U.S. Space Force, and His Majesty The King’s Guard of the Norwegian Army. They have also supplied watches to SAR (Search and Rescue) units in both Norway and Canada, various infantry battalions, and even the Smoke Divers unit of the Oslo Firebrigade.

This new Dualtimer is presented as a return to the brand's origins, as one of MICROMILSPEC's very first commissions was a pilot's watch for the Royal Norwegian Air Force. This model effectively launches a new, dedicated "Pilot" category for the brand. In keeping with their DNA, they also note that custom dial prints remain available for professional clients who require them.

The watch is delivered in a high-gloss, piano-lacquer display box with a soft-touch interior. The box includes hidden compartments that house a strap-changing tool and provide space for extra straps. The package also comes with a certificate of authenticity, a premium fiber cloth, and a complimentary custom military patch, adding to the specialized experience.

MICROMILSPEC backs the Dualtimer with a 5-year international warranty. The brand is explicit that this warranty covers all manufacturing defects, including both internal and external components like the movement, dial, hands, and strap. Their policy is stated simply: if a problem is their fault, they will repair the defect or replace the watch.

The new Dualtimer Look-At-Me Edition is priced at $1,995 when purchased on one of the integrated rubber straps. For those who opt for the matching brushed stainless steel bracelet, the price is $2,035. This release is part of the brand's "Exclusive Annual Collection."
